Hello -
As a part of the review process for Works on Arm, I'd
love to hear how your efforts are going, and to know if
you still need access to arm64 servers at Packet.
Arm management is not as familiar with Adelie Linux
as they are with some other distributions, so your
servers are under review. Any evidence that the systems
are in active use and that you are making progress
with them that would be difficult to replicate otherwise
would be welcomed as a part of that review.
thanks
Ed
Hello Ed,
I apologise for the delay in responding to you - we've been quite busy
putting the finishing touches on 1.0 Release Candidate 2, now including
our graphical installation system.
ARM64, specifically the ability to build and iterate so fast with the
generous build hardware given to our project by Works on Arm, has been
instrumental in the development of our installer.
One of our focuses was on handling different types of wireless
networking easily, something that many other distributions don't put a
focus on. We were able to iterate builds on the installation system on
the Packet server and then deploy to a few different SoCs (Pine64, RPi3)
which drastically lowered our turnaround vs having to reboot x86
hardware with supported wifi chips constantly.
I have been meaning to write about this experience on adelie.blog, but I
haven't had time to devote to writing a proper article. Between the
coronavirus causing contract delays, along with personal and family
health issues, it has been a very crazy few months for me and for the
project on the whole.
Thank you again so much for offering this service to libre projects like
ours. We look forward to a continued partnership in bringing
high-quality, well-tested, reliably secure systems to the Arm ecosystem.
Best to you and yours,
