What we could do is offer a package in system/ called 'debug-repository'
(or such, bikeshed the name later) which installs a file to
/etc/apk/repositories.d/ that has the system and user debug packages.
So, if you want to be able to use debug packages you:
# apk add debug-repository
then you can:
# apk add musl-dbg firefox-esr-dbg
to your heart's content.
This seems reasonable to me. I’m in agreement that we should probably make the debug
packages optional for mirrors.
